Inside the Program: The Rigorous Journey of a Navy SEAL K9

Military working dogs have long been some of the most valuable assets on the battlefield. But the dogs selected for Navy SEAL teams operate at an entirely different level. These animals go through one of the most demanding training pipelines in the world — not just to detect explosives or track threats, but to operate seamlessly alongside elite operators in the most dangerous environments on earth.

Over the next several weeks, I’m launching a detailed series that follows the complete path of a military war dog from the very beginning of its journey all the way to assignment with a SEAL Team handler. Each post will examine a specific stage of the process, including the strict selection criteria at every level and the specialized training these dogs receive.
